Isla's Fresh 48 + Newborn | Prince George Newborn Photographer

At the beginning of April, I had the honour of photographing two very special events. The first would be Isla's Fresh 48 session at the University Hospital of Northern BC, and the second would be her newborn lifestyle session done in their home.

Lisa's maternity session was back in March and you can find the blog post here. Now it was time for her to finally have her baby! She had a scheduled c-section and when I finally got the call that Isla had been born, I could not wait to go to the hospital to take photos! We ended up doing the session when Isla was about 48 hours old, after Momma and Isla got some much needed rest. When I was on my way to the hospital, Lisa told me that she was in the dreaded Room 10, which is the same room that I got put into after I had my own daughter by c-section. This room is at the end of a hallway, has no windows and is pretty much a cave. I walked in the room and was greeted by an emotional Lisa, as the after baby hormones were starting to sink in. After a big hug, and some reassurance that the photos will still be great, we started our session! While shooting our session, memories of my own daughter's birth and our time spent in that room kept coming back to me. Joy filled my heart and there were a few moments where I had to choke back some tears as everything just felt so familiar and real.

So not only was Lisa and family in the same room that I was in after I had my own daughter, but she also has two kids - the oldest being a boy and the youngest being a baby girl - the same genders that I have. Lisa also got given a bag of headbands from our mutual friend, Jaclyn. The headbands were given to Jaclyn by me, and it has come full circle back to Lisa! Baby Isla was wearing the same headband that my own daughter wore after she came into the world at the hospital. This may be cheesy,  but our stories just keep weaving together and I think it is pretty wonderful!

After 2-3 nights in the dreaded cave (Room 10), Lisa got moved to a room with a window, and everything looked up from there! It was a beautiful bright sunny day, with not a cloud in the sky. I offered to come back and do a few extra photos, now that she had a room with optimal natural lighting. When I walked in the room, Lisa was HAPPY, oh so happy. I cannot even explain the difference in mood/tone, but it was contagious. You could not help but smile and feel overjoyed with the sweet new baby laying in her bassinet.

When Isla was around 10 days old, we were able to do her newborn photos in their beautiful home. Everyone seemed to be settled in, and life as we know it, has changed for the better! Big brother Liam was very affectionate with his new sister, giving her lots of kisses and playing with her toes. He jumped at the chance to hold her, especially after hearing that there were Cadbury Mini Eggs on the table if he cooperated lol. Needless to say, it was a beautiful relaxed morning together, capturing some timeless images that will be cherished forever.
