Fresh 48 - What To Expect | Prince George Newborn Photographer
I thought I would write a series of blog posts about what to expect during certain sessions with me! So let's start off with the Fresh 48 session. You have your hospital bag packed, car seat installed, and have read What To Expect When You Are Expecting from cover to cover. All that is left is to have your baby!
Here is what you should expect from a typical Fresh 48 session with Fourthwest Photography!
I will be in contact with you throughout your pregnancy. When you start to go into labour, I will have either you, your spouse, or someone you appoint, message me so that I am aware that you are in labour. That way I can expect that the baby will be coming within the next day or two! Then I don’t require updating again until baby has arrived! I will get you to send me a message once you have recouped a bit, and we will make a plan for me to come to the hospital within the next 24-48 hours.
What do you need for your session? Truthfully… just you, your significant other if you have one, and your sweet squishy new babe! If you have other children, we can absolutely plan to have them at the session as well, and can even try and plan to document their first meeting! If you have a special swaddle blanket, or headbands etc… we can absolutely incorporate them into the session! Momma… you can just wear your hospital gown if you want… or you can get dressed! Totally up to you!
These sessions capture the love that you have for your new baby… and no matter what you wear or what the hospital room looks like… that love will shine through. We will capture both parents with the baby individually, the baby with both parents together, and a bunch of the baby by himself/herself. Typically I would document all those fresh new squishy details of your babe as well… toes, hands, belly, hospital band, etc… I also love getting photos of your new baby in the bassinet that is provided at the hospital.
It just helps tell your story of where baby was born!
The entire session can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes… or possibly a little bit longer depending on if baby needs any feedings or diaper changes. These sessions are quite short as I know how important those first few days are to bond together as a new family… or to bond with your new family member. I do not overstay my welcome, and will get the shots we need, and let you snuggle your new baby in peace!
If you have other family members visiting, I absolutely do not mind taking pictures of them with your baby! This is your story, so I want to document each piece of the story that is important to you. These sessions are simple but some of the most beautiful sessions. There is just nothing quite like the love that is bursting out of a hospital room when you have your baby.
Fresh 48s are still somewhat unknown… and I think most parents should have these photos! These are some of my most cherished photos of my daughter (I had no idea about them when I had my son - I so wish I had them!). Your baby looks so different between Fresh 48 sessions and their newborn sessions, which are typically done at 7-10 days post-birth. At the Fresh 48 session, your baby is still so squishy, and NEW.
They are truly a fresh baby. By the time their newborn session comes, their face and little body has relaxed a bit… and they have settled into their skin. It is hard to believe but there is actually quite a difference between theFresh 48 and the newborn sessions!
I also want to mention that if your baby ends up in the NICU… I am still able to come and do photos. I can still come capture that part of your story! I take every precaution to be healthy and protect both you and your baby that is tiny and more at risk. These sessions in the NICU are generally shorter, and I will not handle baby (swaddle them for you like I do sometimes in normal Fresh 48s).
If you have any questions at all, I would love to chat with you!
I can’t wait to help tell your story of your sweet new baby.
